We use the Amazon Associates program (tag: bpri-20) and work with a few other affiliate programs. Commissions are a percentage of what you spend, so a pricier pick can earn us more. We still list budget options, and we tell you when the cheaper one does the job. What we recommend comes from the process below, not the commission rate.

How we choose

We don't test products ourselves. Each shortlist starts from the maker's own specs and the retailer listing. Where a safety rule applies, like fuel storage, water treatment, generators or batteries, we quote the government source word for word and link to it. When a number comes only from the seller, we say so, and when we couldn't check a claim, we say that too. Then you decide what fits your family.

When a page includes affiliate links, we say so near the top. A product earns a spot because it fits the job the page is about, not because it pays more.
